This is the story of Sophie. She was adopted from Ufa Russia in 2002 when she was 16 months old and weighed only 16 pounds. She was abandoned at birth and spent her first 6 months of her life without a mother in a hospital. She was raised from there in a “baby home” till her new parents from the US adopted her with another child to make the perfect mother and father, daughter and son unit.
From the beginning we had known there was something wrong with her emotions. As she grew older her tantrums were categorized as the terrible 2’s and 3’s and 4’s and so on.
We eventually divorced over the stress of raising her. After countless doctors, therapy, medicine Sophie age 8 is now living with her father and has become increasingly angered over anything that does not go her way. In her fits she is unable to be reasoned with and will attempt to injure herself in the process. The adoption agency has tried to find new parents to care for Sophie but has not succeeded.
My name is Allen and I am her father. She is scheduled for a neurology appointment at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in late January. I hope and pray they find something that may explain her situation and diagnose her with a treatable plan to help her deal with the uncontrollable emotions that pour from her daily.
