Kylie’s Story
A woman stumbles into her messy home while Kylie lies on the floor, Kylie cries because of course, yet again her mother has neglected to change her diaper. She's been lying in a crib surroudned by trash strewn about the floor for 2 days while her mother was drinking and injecting drugs into her veins. Kylie stares ahead as her mother falls asleep in a haze of heroin and meaningless sex. Another night alone, Kylie refuses to cry. She has learned at the tender age of 1 years old that crying won't wake a woman under the influence.
Kylie crawls past liquor bottles, discarded food bags and dishes and shakes her mom as hard as her little hands can. The only response she receives is a "Go away, not now honey" not really uttered but moaned from this totally broken woman. She lies next to her mother splayed out on a filthy couch, sitting on the floor. Why should this woman care? She doesn't even know who Kylie's birthfather is. Kylie wouldn't know the difference either way.
Why cry? She has witnessed her mother brutally beaten at the hands of multiple men she regards as her "boyfriends". Kylie has seen her thrown into walls, her mother fist fighting with her birthfather and men she has never met before. Blood flows easily in this household. When will it change?
Today, Kylie has a new lease on life. She is being adopted by a a caring family that needs our help who is currently fostering Kylie. Kylie now 18 months old and has the classic symptoms of R.A.D. Her rages, even at this age are physically aggressive towards her foster family. Kylie is one of the first children we have seen that can smile and at the same time can physically express anger with her very revealing eyebrows. The icy anger that is emitted from her deep blue eyes is a stark reminder of the hell this little girl has already experienced at such a young age.
Today, it's our job as a community to help this family struggling financially, emotionally and feeling dumped off by the state that vows to help Kylie and her family. Today, we show Kylie and her family that help is available in many different forms and we can assist them. Today we can provide that hope as a community and that all hope is not gone.
While Kylie's roots are buried with so many horror and neglectful nights, the days again can be ones of peace, hope and healing.
